Tomlinson is a Jet and Quinn is a Bronco

The Jets continue to dominate the free agent market as the inked a deal with future HALL OF FAME running back LaDainian Tomlinson for two years worth up to $5.6 million. Tomlinson will fit in very nicely with the Jets offense as he will be mixed in with Shonn Greene, as Greene will be the #1 this season, and he will be a great teacher for the young back as well.

The Broncos acquired Browns QB Brady Quinn for Peyton Hillis and a 2011 and 2012 draft pick. I originally thought the Chiefs would go after Quinn due to Quinn's relationship with Charlie Weiss, however, this is a great pickup for the Broncos as Quinn will learn a lot from Kyle Orton who is a textbook-style quarterback that understands the x's and o's of the quarterback position.

Winners and Losers so far

Clearly the Jets and the Ravens are the big winners. The Jets acquired Antonio Rodgers-Cromartie from the Cardinals and now there are reports out that the Jets are bringing in future hall of fame running back, LaDanian Tomlinson for a meet and greet visit. The Ravens won big time with the acquisition of Anquan Boldin from the Cardinals. Boldin gives the Ravens a mature receiver that can stretch the field, go across the middle, and catch 100+ passes no problem. Boldin and Flacco are a HUGE duo in the AFC.

The clear loser so far in the free agent market is the Arizona Cardinals. Losing Kurt Warner to retirement, Antonio Rodgers-Cromartie to the Jets, and Anquan Boldin to the Ravens, the Cardinals have taken major steps backwards and will have a very tough time wining the division with who they have right now. Another team that I will consider a loser so far is the Philadelphia Eagles. With three potential starting quarterbacks, McNabb, Vick, and Kolb, the Eagles have done nothing to shop these guys around because they are bluffing with Vick saying they will pay him the 3 million owed this season if no one puts up the right offer, but now their are reports, from ESPN's Sal Palantonio, that the Eagles are asking for a first round draft pick from Kolb or McNabb. The Eagles need to clear this quarterback controversy up before training camp and from the looks of it now, it does not look like we'll know a thing.

Things that may happen before the draft:
-Brady Quinn will be shipped out of Cleveland and the Browns will bring in a new starting quarterback. (Predictions: Delhomme, McNabb/Kolb, or possibly Charlie Whitehurst from the Chargers). I expect Quinn to possibly head to Kansas City to be with his college coach and former Patriots offensive coordinator...Oh yea, the new Off. Coordinator of the KC Chiefs, Charlie Weiss.
-LT will sign with the Vikings before the draft
-TO will be rumored to talk with the Eagles, but then sign with an AFC team (Oakland, Kansas City, Jets)
-Brian Westbrook will have a new home

Free Agent Update 3/4

Interesting news in the NFL on the first Thursday in March 2010, 2 days before the Free Agent signing period begins.

- It appears likely, according to Lance Zierlein of KGOW in Houston, that JULIUS PEPPERS of the CAROLINA PANTHERS is on his way to the WASHINGTON REDSKINS.

- Antonio Cromartie, CB from San Diego, looks like he may end up with the runner up in the AFC this year, the New York Jets. Cromartie would be shipped to the Jets for a 2nd round draft pick. Imagine Cromartie and Revis in the Jets secondary next year, he may be the piece of the puzzle for Rex Ryan to get past the Colts.

-Jake Delhomme, QB Carolina, is looking like his time in Carolina is over. Reports are coming in that Delhomme is on his way out and will be searching for a backup role for a contender. Once a promising arm in the NFL, 5 interceptions in an NFC Divisional game later...starting quarterback career in serious jeopardy. Best of luck to Jake the snake.

more to come as more news hits the wire...

Things to look for-

Eagles - What will they do with their quarterback situation? Will McNabb bleed green in the 2010-2011 season?

Bears - Will the Bears make a serious attempt to acquire Julius Peppers before the Redskins do?

Chargers - Will the Chargers bring Sprolles back? Who is their running back this season if he and LT are gone?

Jones / Tomlinson / Westbrook - Where will these elite backs be relocating too?
