Week 9 - Start 'Em / Sit 'Em

START 'EM

QB's
1. Joe Flacco (BAL) - Coming off of the bye week, the Ravens have a good matchup at home against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have been tremendous on the road this season, but after a big win in Cincinnati last week, I think the Ravens come out firing and catch them off guard.
2. Michael Vick (PHI) - Vick is an absolute mis-match for the Colts defense. Freeney and Mathis will penetrate the Eagles offensive line, but Vick's quickness will out do the Colts defense and be able to extend the plays. Vick could have a huge day in what should be a high scoring affair.

---Sit 'Em
1. Josh Freeman (TAM)
2. Chad Henne (MIA)

START 'EM

RB's
1. Lesean McCoy (PHI) - Vick is going to be too much for the Colts defense, they will be on their heels. Tosses and draws will gain huge yards for McCoy, I expect big things from him Sunday.
2. Brandon Jacobs (NYG) - Goal line machine. If you need a fill-in RB this week or need an option guy at a flex spot, Jacobs is a great option. The Seahawks will be overmatched by the larger and well rested Giants offensive line.

---Sit 'Em
1. Beanie Wells (ARI)
2. Cedric Benson (CIN)

START 'EM

WR's
1. Steve Smith (NYG) - The Giants are coming off the bye week and the Seahawks lost their quarterback in a bad loss. I smell a blow out and you know Eli will be slingin' the ball all over the field.
2. Mike Wallace (PITT) - The downfield threat for the Steelers should have a big day against a beaten up and disgruntled Bengals defense. Wallace should have a big score this weekend.

---Sit 'Em
1. Percy Harvin (MINN)
2. Dez Bryant (DAL)

START EM/ SIT EM - Week 5

START 'EM

QB's
-Bye Week QB's - Brady, Henne, Hasselbeck, Batch

1. Eli Manning NYG - Playing at Houston this week, Manning takes on a Texans defense that is dead last against the pass (338 yards per game). With the return of Brian Cushing, the Texans will have more "pep" in their step, but this matchup is too favorable for Manning and for fantasy owners that can start him.

2. Ryan Fitzpatrick BUFF - Playing a home game against the Jaguars, one that many think will be the Bills first win of the season, Fitzpatrick has a favorable matchup with the Jaguars secondary that is allowing 304 yards per game (30th in NFL). I like this opportunity for Fitzpatrick as the Bills need this game badly, and the Jaguars are coming off a huge win last week against Indianapolis. If you are in a 2 QB league, or missed the waiver wire this week, Fitzpatrick is a good pickup.

Sit 'Em

1. Kyle Orton DEN - He is going against the Ravens defense in Baltimore that is only allowing 120 passing yards per game! I would be extremely cautious in using Orton this week, this is a bad game for the Broncos.

START 'EM

RB's

1. CJ Spiller/ Fred Jackson BUFF - The Jaguars are coming off a big win against Indianapolis last week and they won't be prepared for a desperate home team with big time energy going for their first win. I love Jackson and Spiller, I think Jackson will get teh most touches, but Spiller will be incorporated into the offense with screens, dump-offs, and tosses.

2. Cedric Benson CIN - He has been USELESS this season, under performing, and a let down. Not this week. Huge week for CED BENZ. START HIM, and expect a big game as the Bengals are in must-win mode at home following a very disappointing divisional loss to the Browns last week. The Buccaneers won't be ready for Ced.

Sit 'Em

1. DeAngelo Williams CAR - Williams will be going against the Bears stout run defense, and expect eight guys in the box at all times to prevent the Panthers ground attack from having any success against the Bears run-defense.

START 'EM

WR's

1. Hakeem Nicks NYG - The Texans pass defense is the worst in the NFL, Eli will be passing a lot in this one and he will be taking shots down the field. Nicks hands seem like they have glue on them this season, start him and look for a very productive performance out of him.

2. Lee Evans BUFF - This is Buffalo's week. I am expecting a big let down performance from Jacksonville, and Evans and Fitzpatrick always hook up with deep passes when they play in front of the Buffalo faithful. If you need a #2-3 receiver / Flex guy, Evans is your man.

Sit 'Em
1. Brandon Lloyd DEN - Against the best pass defense in the league, Orton will struggle to complete passes to his main target, and this will be his let down week of what has been a terrific start to the season.

Week 10 Start 'Em / Sit 'Em

Here are my hot and cold starts for Week 10 in the NFL:

QUARTERBACKS-

Hot Start:

-Matt Hasselbeck (SEA) - The Seahawks will be in catch up mode from the 2nd quarter on in this matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Additionally, the Cardinals are 3rd against the run, so the Seahawks will turn 1-dimensional with the pass very fast. Hasselbeck and Burleson have had success the past few weeks, and I like them to hook up in this game as well. Hasselbeck should be in the 250+ yards 2 TD 2 INT range this week.

-Josh Freeman (TB) -
I am not on this bandwagon yet, but Freeman put up big numbers against the Packers defense last week, and the Dolphins secondary is not stellar against the pass by any means, yielding 247 yards per game through the air. Freeman could have a 225-235 yard game with a TD and a pick.

-Jay Cutler (CHI) - Thursday night matchup in San Francisco and the Bears will have a lot in front of them in order to get the win. Clearly the Bears are not going to run the ball 25 times a game against anyone this season, so Cutler is a valuable option each week. Add the fact that he and Greg Olsen finally hooked up for a score (actually 3 ) last week shows signs that Cutler will begin targeting him more often. The Bears will be behind in this one, and playing on the road I will imagine Cutler passing the ball 42-47 times. I think a 275+ yard game is likely for Cut, but I do see an INT or 2.

Cold Start:
-Kyle Orton (DEN) - Washington is #1 against the pass and Orton has looked human the past two games. Denver will win this game due to controlling the time of possession and having good field position. Don't expect much from Orton, I see 180 yards and a TD at best.

-David Garrard (JAX) - The Jets are #2 against the pass, they had the bye week to prepare for this game, and they are at home. None of this bodes well for the Jaguars. Garrard will get sacked, fumble, and picked off in this game. Sit him.

RUNNING BACKS:

Hot Start:
-Willis McGahee (BAL) - The Browns allow 171 yards per game on the ground (31st in the NFL) and the Ravens need to get McGahee going at this time of the year so that Rice can have healthy legs deeper into the season.

-Jamaal Charles (KC) - With the Raiders secondary, the Chiefs have to try to run the ball. However, Charles is terrific catching passes out of the backfield so he presents value running it and catching it. Good week to give him a go if you need a #3 or Flex player.

-Mike Bell (NO) - Bell will get some carries this week as the Saints go against the lowly Rams. Bell will get some goal-line carries to pad his numbers as the Saints will utilize their ground game against St. Louis (who allows 135 yards per game on the ground).

Cold Start:
-Julius Jones (SEA) -
The Cardinals are 3rd against the run and 29th vs the pass. If you were the coach would you run it or pass it? Pass it they will. Sit Jones.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Hot Start:
-Chris Chambers (KC) -
Chambers became the go to guy for Cassel last week in the 4th quarter. Look for this connection to get stronger each week,

-Percy Harvin (MINN) - Potentially the rookie of the year, Harvin presents a great fantasy matchup against the Lions. The Vikings probably won't pass it much as the Lions are not a good defense against the run, but Harvin can run the ball, receive passes, and take back kicks. Start him.

-Nate Burleson (SEA) - He is Hasselbeck's favorite target, and he has a good chance to make something happen against a weak Arizona secondary. Start him and hope he can give you 7 catches, 120 yards and a TD.

Cold Start:
-Eddie Royal (DEN) -
Washington is too strong against the pass, and they get pressure on the quarterback. Sit Royal this week.

-Roddy White (ATL) - Atlanta will focus on running the ball effectively to keep DeAngelo Williams off the field for Carolina. Long drives will take up most of this game, if Matt Ryan is passing, he will be targeting Tony G. more so than Roddy W.

-Santana Moss (WAS) - The Broncos are solid against the pass, but they are 3rd in sacks in the NFL and with a beat up offensive line and not a strong blocking tight end, the Broncos should get a lot of pressure on Campbell.

Week 9 Start 'E, / Sit 'Em

Here are my selections for who to start and sit this week in the NFL:

QUARTERBACKS:

Hot Starts-

1. Joe
Flacco (BAL) - The Bengals rank 30th in the NFL against the pass, and rank 31st when playing at home. This won't be high scoring because of both defenses, but I see Flacco racking up yards all game.
2. Jason Campbell (WAS) - Campbell is a solid fill-in QB this week if you are in a deep league. Campbell is coming off a bye week so his preparation and game planning should mean he'll at least have a good first half. But, Campbell had a decent day against the Eagles two Sundays ago when he threw for 284 yards and 2 TDs.

Cold Starts-
1. Matt Ryan (ATL)
- Ryan should put up decent yards against Washington, but I think Atlanta's scoring will come on the ground. Atlanta plays well at home and and Ryan will put scoring drives together, but I think Michael Turner will punch them in for 6 on the ground. The Skins defense is tough, ranking 2nd against the pass and averages 2.5 sacks per game.

RUNNING BACKS:

Hot Starts-
1. Jamaal Charles (KC) -
The Jaguars give up big plays on the ground (as evidence from last week against Tennessee) and Jamaal Charles has the tools to bust open for long yard runs. The Chiefs have a chance to put it to the Jaguars this week and they should be very prepared as they had an extra week to get ready for Jacksonville. I expect a solid day out of Charles.

2. Ryan Grant (GB) - This will be Grants coming out party of the season. The Bucs are horrible defensively and Grant will have plenty of chances to break away from defenders and turn 10 yard runs into 25 yards runs. Grant will go over 100 and get a score this weekend.

Cold Starts-
1. Knowshon Moreno (DEN) -
If Pittsburgh can hold Adrian Peterson to 69 yards on 18 carries (1 carry went for 19 yards so that is really 17 carries for 50 yards) do you really think Moreno will cut them up for anything more than that? I don't either. Sit him if you have anyone else.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Hot Starts-

1. Kevin Walter (HOU) -
With the loss of TE Owen Daniels the Texans need Walter to step up. I believe he will as Andre Johnson will draw double teams and pull safeties to his part of the field. Walter's targets should dramatically increase from here on out.

2. Nate Burleson (SEA) - Burleson was targeted 12 times last week bye Hasselbeck, and playing a Detroit Lions secondary that allows 270 yards through the air when they play on the road...Yeah, I will say Burleson is a hot start.

Cold Start-

1. Roddy White (ATL) -
This is a big reach as White has been on fire for a few weeks, but the Redskins secondary is very good against the pass and they have had 2 weeks to prepare for this game. Take away a 57 yard touchdown pass from McNabb to Jackson last week and McNabb's numbers were (14-24 99 yards). Sit him this week if you have any other options as I see White accumulating 5 catches for 60 yards.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Week 8 Start 'Em / Sit 'Em

Here are my hot and cold starts for Week 8 in the NFL

QUARTERBACKS:

Hot Start:
-Kyle Orton (DEN) - Coming off a bye week the Ravens will be prepared to force the Broncos to become 1-dimensional by shutting down their run game. Orton will throw early and often in this one, and the Ravens are thin in the secondary and are allowing over 240 yards passing per game. Orton may throw a pick, but I expect this game to be in the 20's as both offenses can put up points, and I expect Orton to hook up with Brandon Marshall at least once for a touchdown. Orton should have something like 26-41 246 yards 2 TD INT.

-David Garrard (JAX) - Garrard has a career 77 QB Rating against the Titans, but this week he'll do much better. The Titans have the worst pass defense in the NFL, and if they focus on stopping the passing game of Jacksonville they will allow big chunks by Maurice Jones-Drew on the ground. Garrard will have a big day in the air against the Titans.

Cold Start:
-Matt Ryan (
ATL) - The Saints are coming off a gigantic victory in Miami last week where they came back from a 24-3 deficit to overcome the Dolphins. The Saints always play better at home, and this year the defense has been much better against the pass (only allowing 214 yards/game, leading the NFL in interceptions (13), and averaging 2.5 sacks per game).

RUNNING BACKS:

Hot Start:
-Felix Jones (DAL) - Jones is an explosive back. He is averaging 8.6 yards per carry, and Seattle has the 30th ranked rushing defense when playing on the road. Look for Jones to get 8-12 touches in this game, one of them going for big yards and a score. I love Jones as a #3 RB option this week.

-Beanie Wells (ARI) - Wells had 17 touches last week the #1 ranked defense in the league (NYG) and he put up 77 total yards, 4.8 yards per carry, and his first career touchdown. Expect even better this week as Wells faces a Carolina run defense that allows 162 yards per game on the ground when they are playing on the road. The Cardinals always play well at home, expect a good effort out of Wells in Arizona. 15-20 touches, 85+ combined yards, 1-2 td's.

Cold Start:
-Willis McGahee (BAL) - McGahee has taken a seat on the bench due to the performance on the field by 2nd year back Ray Rice. Rice has been phenomenal all season, both rushing and catching passes out of the back field. Rice is now beginning to get rewarded for his good play by receiving the ball in goal-line situations, something McGahee had thought were his opportunities. Sit McGahee this week.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Hot Start:

-Hakeem Nicks (
NYG) - Nicks is a deep ball threat for Eli Manning. I am certain that Eli will take a shot or two against the Eagles secondary in the hopes for a big play, big penalty, and a shot at shutting down the Philly crowd for a bit. Nicks is emerging as a solid wide receiver and he is making the most of his opportunities. Look for 70-85 yards and a possible score for Nicks.

-Michael Crabtree (SF) - Week 1 for Crabtree was a success, this week against the Colts, will be an even bigger test. Expect Crabtree to rise to the occasion as the 49ers will be forced to catchup to the Colts and have to throw the ball with newly-named starter, Alex Smith. The Colts are tremendous against the pass, allowing under 200 yards per game, but the 49ers are going to be forced to pass the ball a lot more than they are used to, and Crabtree will reap the benefits. 60-70 yards and his first TD.

Cold Start:
-Anquan Boldin (ARI) - Boldin looked like he was beat up last week, still not fully recovered from his sprained ankle. The Panthers cover the pass well, but the Cardinals have so many options and now have, what appears to be, a running game, the potential for Boldin is not high here. Sit him, check his status throughout the week to see if he is even going to play. Breaston and Fitzgerald will get all the looks this week anyway.

Week 7 Start 'Em / Sit 'Em

Let's take a look at some hot/cold starts this week in the NFL:

QUARTERBACKS:

Hot Start:
-Eli Manning NYG - The Cardinals are the number 1 ranked defense against the run, but they are 31st against the pass. Look for the Giants to try to establish the ground game, but Eli will have plenty of opportunities to put up very good numbers against a secondary that allows over 260 yards per game.

-Matt Cassel KC - Cassel only averages 180 passing yards a game, but his 7:2 touchdown to interception ratio shows that he is being smart with his decisions. The Chiefs are starting to move the ball better on offense, and going against a very soft San Diego defense this week should allow Cassel to put up some numbers. Add the fact that the Chiefs may be playing catch-up throughout this game, gives Cassel a lot of value this week if you need a fill-in qb.

-Tony Romo DAL - Romo is coming off the bye week amped up to make some noise on his home field and to get his team back on the right path. Romo hooked up with Miles Austin for 250 yards last game, so look for Austin to be a go-to target during this game against Atlanta. Atlanta allows 241 yards through the air per game, and they just gave up 300 last week to Jay Cutler and the receivers the Bears have (sorry, don't know their names). Williams, Austin, Crayton, and Witten should all chip in to give Romo a solid stat day.

Cold Start:
-Brett Farve MIN - Farve has been on fire this season and he is one of the main reasons that the Vikings are 6-0. However, Pittsburgh plays different when they are at home. They play the rush harder, and they play the pass better. Troy Polamalu will be playing again this week, and I believe that the Steelers will be putting a lot of pressure on Farve, as well as the Viking receivers at the line of scrimmage. Farve will put up his 200+ yards, but I do see him get sacked, hit, and hurried often during this game. If you have another option at qb this week, my advice is to use it.

RUNNING BACKS:

Hot Start:
-Jonathan Stewart CAR - Jake Delhomme is having an awful first half to this season. The Panthers need this game against the Bills to put them back at 3-3 and in the hunt for the NFC-Wild Card. Stewart broke out last week against the Bucs, and this week he is going against the Bills that are dead last in the NFL in rush-defense allowing 182 yards per game. Williams and Stewart will get 15-25 carries a piece, Stewart will get in the end zone. Start him.

-Ryan Grant GB - Grant will find the endzone this week, and I also am anticipating a few long runs out of him as he is going against the NFL's 3rd worst run defense that allows 165 yards per game. The Packers will utilize the run game against the Browns in order to open up the play action pass plays. Packers will be all over the Browns in this game, start Grant.

-Tashard Choice DAL - Choice is expected to get more touches, so this looks like a favorable matchup for him to have a decent game. The Falcons are a good team, but they have a middle-of-the-pack defense. Look for Choice to have a solid game as a 3rd RB or Flex option for your fantasy team this week.

Cold Start:
-Tim Hightower ARI - The Cardinals will have to pass a lot in this game in order to catch up with the Giants offense. After getting broken apart by the Saints last week, I would anticipate a much better outing from the Giants defense.

WIDE RECEIVERS:

Hot Start:
-Steve Smith/Hakeem Nicks/Mario Manningham NYG - Eli will have a big day against the Cardinals worst ranked passing defense, so start any of these guys if you own them. Smith has been the go-to all season, but Nicks appears to be emerging as a down field/touchdown threat, while Manningham sneaks in with 60 yards and a score each week. Love these guys this week.

-Mike Wallace PITT - Wallace is Big Ben's down field threat, and Big Ben is having a lot of success throwing the ball this season as he leads the NFL in passing yards. Wallace is averaging 17 yards per catch, and runs vertical routes numerous times during the game. With the Vikings being vulnerable against the pass, and Ward and Holmes being the main threats, look for Wallace to have a breakout game.

Cold Start:
-Steve Smith CAR - After announcing to the public that he does not feel like an asset to his team anymore, Smith should have another announcement after this week. The Bills cover the pass well, but are the worst in the NFL against the run. Jake Delhomme has 10 interceptions this season, while Stewart and Williams ran for over 200 yards combined last week. I don't see Delhomme throwing more than 20 passes this week. Smith will be a non-factor as the Bills will shut him down.

Start 'Em & Sit 'Em Week 3

Here are my hot and cold starters for the NFL's Week 3 Games

START 'EM

QB:

1. Kevin Kolb (Philadelphia) - Kolb was impressive in his pro debut against the Saints. 391 yards in the air with 2 TDs. The 3 INTs aren't great, but one of them was the last play of the game when they were down 26. Look for the Eagles to throw just as much this week against the Chiefs as Brian Westbrook may be out with an ankle injury.

2. Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) - The Titans boast the NFL's worst pass defense allowing 339 yards per game. I think this game will go no higher than 20 points for either team, but I do like the potential for Sanchez. Start him if you are in a 12-team league and have a tough match up with your #1 option.

SIT 'EM - Brett Farve (Minnesota) - Farve will be forced to throw the ball more this week as Adrian Peterson will struggle a bit against the 49ers stout defense. Farve will throw his first interception of the season this week, possibly his second too. Defensive battle in this game.

RB:
1. Felix Jones (DALLAS) - With Marion Barber most likely out with a quad strain, Jones will see more touches. Going against a Carolina Panthers defense that is allowing 168 yards per game on the ground, Jones is a great pickup / start this week for fantasy football players.

2. Tim Hightower - With the Colts unable to stop the run against the Dolphins on Monday night, look for the Cardinals to run the ball a few more times with Hightower this week. Additionally, Hightower is a tremendous receiver out of the back field which increases his fantasy value even more this week.

SIT 'EM - Cedric Benson (CIN) - Benson is up against the Steelers this week and they do not allow backs to have success on the ground. I think Benson is a sleeper start if he breaks open a big run, but overall his fantasy value is no better than a number 2 RB this week. Sit him if you have the depth.

WR:

1. Johnny Knox (Chicago) - Sleeper in the making. Knox is emerging as Cutlers favorite target, and this kid is fast. He has the ability to break free of his defenders and turn small gains into larges ones at any given play.

2. Jerricho Cotchery (New York Jets) - #1 receivers have done very well against the Titans this season. With a very good run defense, I believe the Titans will force the Jets to throw the ball a little bit more this week. This is why I have Sanchez as a decent start at quarterback. Success is very plausible against the NFL's worst passing defense.

SIT 'EM - Roddy White (Atlanta Falcons) - The Patriots have done well at defending the pass this season. Its the run they do not stop very well. Look for Michael Turner to have 25+ carries in this game for the Falcons. That does not leave many touches for White. Sit him if you have another option at WR.

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Start 'Em / Sit 'Em WEEK 1

Start 'Em:

QB's:
1. Chad Pennington (MIA) - Pennington is on the road in Atlanta this week. Atlanta has a very week secondary to go along with a week defense. With Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams having success on the ground, the Dolphins passing game will be able to spread the field and have many options available. I love Pennington to Bess this season, I think those two will hook up for 6 in this game.

2. David Garrard (JAX) - The Jaguars always play the Colts tough. In order to stay close with Manning, Garrard will have to be able to throw the ball down field. This year he has a threat in Torry Holt and will target it him many times. Remember, it was two seasons ago where Garrard didn't throw interceptions, only touchdowns. I like Garrard to have a great Week 1 against the Colts and almost pull off an upset.

RB:
1. Cedric Benson (CIN) - I love the Bengals this week. Going against the Broncos who had an awful training camp on and off the field. Benson had a great end of the season last year and he will continue that this year. In better shape and running hard, Benson will get plenty of touches to have a good day against the Broncos defense.

2. Julius Jones (SEA) - Jones had a good preseason, and with the addition of Edgerrin James, he only got better as the preseason came to an end. Seattle will use Jones a lot in week 1 to allow the running game to settle in for this offense so they don't become 1-dimensional like last season. A healthy Matt Hasselback should pose enough problems for the Rams defense, but add in JJ running hard up the gut, and you have yourself a win in Seattle.

WR:
1. Kevin Walter (HOU) - Check his status Sunday morning as he may be out due to hamstring issues, however, if he is playing START HIM. The Jets will be doubling Andre Johnson all game leaving Walter in single coverage. Cash that check in and have yourself a day K Walt.

2. Lance Moore (NO) - Moore had a tremendous year last season in the fantasy football offense of the Saints. This trend will continue this year, especially this week as the Saints take on the Lions at home. Saints will do plenty of play action deep balls and many will go Moore's way. I look for Moore to be around 100 yards and a TD.

Sit 'Em

QB:
1. Eli Manning (NYG) - Manning is going against a Washington secondary that has too much talent and experience to get beat by the lack of threats the Giants possess. Hixon, Smith, Nicks, and Moss will have a tough time getting off the line of scrimmage let alone getting open. Sit Eli this week until he develops good chemistry with a few of these guys.

RB:
1. Thomas Jones (NYJ) - I don't like TJ against the Texans this week. With a rookie QB starting I think the Texans will stack the box to stop the run and force the Jets to win through the air. The Jets thrive on Jones and Washington gaining ground and then they look to throw. Tough matchup for rookie QB Mark Sanchez, sit TJ.

WR:
1. Roy Williams (TB) - The Bucs were 4th in the league last year in Passing Yards allowed, and 3rd in INTs. Williams will be covered all day by second year phenom Aqib Talib. Look elsewhere if you can for better fantasy value WRs this week.
